The OBX seems to have two exit points for noise, the back pipe and the down pipe. I am getting as much noise from the down pipe into the cabin as I am from the tail pipe or more? The tail pipe noise would be tolerable. Got to get rid of the down pipe noise, it reverberates into the cabin and makes the car difficult to be in.
Honestly, I think this may be the loudest street car I've ever been in that didn't have the exhaust disconnected. I drove one of my T5's home with the down pipe disconnected and the noise was not really more objectionable than the OBX. It may be more of a resonance issue than a db issue. Sort of like driving with both back windows down and you get a nasty resonance in the cabin. The walls of the pipe seem fairly thin, perhaps that is a contributing factor.
I'm hoping I can tune out some of the down pipe noise with the converter. I'll just look for the biggest 3" low restriction converter out there. Probably just a magnaflow metal high-flow cat. I've been thinking of a cut out right after the cat to open it up on track days but we'll see if I decide on that.
