Why extended? Just clients with WinXP SP2 and the Ghost client installed on them I installed the client directly from the server, but have also tried installing it from the CD and telling it the server name to look at. The server is Win2k3, static IP, no firewall running or anything of that nature.
There are no DNS issues. I can ping the server and from server to client and surf to shares, etc without any issues. Reverse lookup is fine as well. I am not actually even getting to the point I am trying to do anything with the system.
If I use the Ghost server and a boot disk, it works fine to push an image that way. But in the Ghost console, the system just never appears. I opened the Ghost client on the system, and that is where I am seeing the polling. I can't actually do anything to the system from the Console, because the systems never appear in the console.
They don't show up until the client connects to the server, and it just isn't doing that unless it has a static IP. It works from the single Ghost server and a boot disk fine. It is the client and console that never see eahc other which of course is what I need because I have some autoinstalls I need to push out. I don't think we have spanning tree running, but I will double-check and see.
When I actually think of Ghost I think of imaging.. I never used ghost Console to push out packages or anything Are you using it like a an Altiris or SMS? When you replaced the server, did you copy the pubkey. You need those keys otherwise the clients will not recognize the server.
How to move the Ghost Console to a different computer or retain Console settings during a reinstall. Sorry for the caps in advance Stop thinking about it, go here and go now. We are using it for imaging as well, but it has functions similar to SMS although probably not quite as good. It basically scans a systems, then you make whatever changes you want install, uninstall, etc , and then it scans the system again and notes the changes. It then can make these changes to other systems remote.
It works fairly well for most installs, and since we already had Ghost, we chose to use that instead of getting SMS as well. I didn't copy the keys, instead, I pushed the clients out again. Also, I have tried deleting the pubkey. It never recreates the pubkey.
I checked all the switch configs, etc this morning and everything looks good there. The new server is on the same switch as the old one, and after this morning, in the exact same port as well.
This didn't make any difference not that I really expected it to. So it looks like switching issues can be ruled out as a possible cause. Please don't spam the forum. And try to make intelligent recommendations without caps. Skeve, Sorry bud.. I have never used Ghost clients like SMS I before dim?
But you knew that I didn't mean it as Spam. I meant like stop yelling in the forum. No need for caps and to amp up a product. I am actually starting a new job where I will be using Altiris which i heard is the bomb. I have never ghosted anything that needed raid drivers. I know its a good product.. This is an interesting problem. How many clients do have trying to connect to the server? What kind of network do you have? Active Directory, Novell? Do you have a wins server?
The Configuration Name step allows for a detailed description to be specified for the PXE configuration, if inclined please specify one now. Select next to proceed.
Select ok once properly populated. Loading new drivers may take a moment, when this process is completed the Boot Disk Creator will ask to refresh the driver list. Select yes when this occurs. After the driver list refreshes, select next and continue on to the next step of the process.
A static I. P connection can also be set on this page. On this next screen, verify that the Ghost Solution Suite Server communication is set similar to the below screenshot.
Automation Agent Location is based on preference, select one of the options and proceed with the configuration. Verify the Network Connection settings before proceeding. Please enter either domain administrator or local administrator credentials on this screen.
